Sandy – Man jailed for child sexual offences

A man was jailed for 2 years today, Thursday, 11 May 2017, for trying to meet an underage girl for sexual activity.

Craig Hall, aged 44, from High Road, Beeston near Sandy thought he was talking to a girl under 13 on Facebook over his phone. In fact, it was an older woman who reported the conversation to the police, Luton Crown Court heard.

Hall was convicted, by a jury, of three counts of attempting to incite a girl aged under 13 to engage in sexual activity during Facebook conversations on 22 to 23 March last year.

David Smithet, defending, said Hall was of previous good character and still maintained his innocence. He said he was suspended and has now lost his job. He said his family was standing by him and gave the Judge character references.

Judge Barbara Mensah said Hall’s claim that his phone and Facebook account had been accessed by somebody else was not believed by her or by the jury.

In addition to the custodial sentence, the Judge said Hall must abide by the terms of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order indefinitely and register as a Sex Offender for 10 years.
